The Casuals featuring Johnny Sportcoat - Classic 80's Rock - Free Show
Formed in 1979 from the wreckage of at least 2 good bands, The Casuals Featuring Johnny Sportcoat quickly became staples of the Mid Altantic club and party circuit, ranging from New Jersey and Pennsylvania all the way down to Georgia. Founding members Bryan Yates (guitar, vocals), Gibby Dammann (drums, vocals), Dennis Guinan (guitar, Acetone, vocals), Bob Otte (bass) and Bob Girard (vocals) spiced their sets with tunes ranging from Dave Edmonds and Elvis Costello to Captain Beefheart and The Clash, as well as rock and roll originals. Otte left in 1980 and was replaced on bass by Dan Sebring until 1984, when Sonny Layne took over on the low end. The band hired Jep Epstein in 1986 to replace the departing Bryan Yates, and finished their run with Pete Larsen on keys. Reunions in recent years have been enhanced by the addition of the energetic Charlie Pastorfield (guitar, vocals)
During their course the band recorded and produced two original vinyl lp’s that rotated at 33 1/3 rpms, as well as a smaller record that rotated at 45 rpms.
Many of them cannot be located, or live on other coasts. They occasionally reassemble but rarely speak.
